Todd Slater is an American poster artist born in 1979 in Peoria Illinois who has built a celebrated career translating the energy of indie and mainstream rock into vibrant silkscreen art. After moving to Austin Texas at age five he studied art design and film at Stephen F. Austin State University graduating in 2002. A chance discovery of gigposters.com ignited his passion for concert art and by twenty four he was sending unsolicited White Stripes designs that won him early commissions and led to ongoing collaborations with Jack White Dave Matthews and Pearl Jam.
Working primarily in limited edition hand pulled screenprints Slater spends roughly forty hours on each poster weaving surreal layered imagery that minimizes text and maximizes visual storytelling. His influences range from the 1960s Chicago collective The Hairy Who to figurative painters like Jenny Saville and the aesthetics of Aesthetic Apparatus and Ames Bros. Beyond music he crafts sought after film posters for Austin’s Mondo Gallery including a Goldfinger print that sold at Christie’s for over three thousand dollars. Slater’s meticulous process blends digital precision with hand drawn textures resulting in rich color fields intricate line work and hidden symbols that reward close inspection. Whether depicting Arctic Monkeys Queens of the Stone Age or Jerry Garcia his pieces function as both collectible ephemera and stand alone fine art capturing the spirit of performance while pushing the boundaries of contemporary printmaking.

I present to you another entry in the 'Occasional Acid Flashback' series! My old college roommate Joe suggested I tackle Mandy Patinkin's likeness years ago and the idea has stayed in my head since. There's something about a life consuming obsession with a noble kind of revenge that resonates with me to this day. There's this fascinating dichotomy in his character between honor and integrity and his obsessive vengeance and singular motivation to find the six fingered man. Some days he's good humored, charismatic and charming and other days he turns to bouts of heavy drinking and despair. It is this duality that makes him so complex and relatable. I recognize parts of Inigo in myself and most of the people I get to know on a personal level. The world seems extremely chaotic on this day in 2025 and I've inwardly wondered what art I should be making at this moment in history. And while I currently juggle a number of projects I'm passionately working on I will settle for a warm smile and a nostalgic memories from seeing the Princess Bride for the first time.
