Serio Press is a Los Angeles print studio built on ink, daylight and democratic ideals. Opened in 2012 by master printer Jorge López, the shop occupies a former textile mill near the L.A. River, where thirty foot skylights flood custom built work tables with even, north facing light. Specialising in water based screen printing, the team collaborates with artists, museums and social justice organisations to translate paintings, digital collages and photographs into limited edition prints that retain the hand of the original while gaining the tactile snap of pulled ink.

The process begins with high-resolution scanning or direct photography on site. Separations are then output on waterproof film, handcut or digitally printed, and stretched onto aluminium frames tensioned to 25 newtons tight enough to hold fine halftone dots yet flexible for large solids. Using only water-based pigments, printers lay down translucent glazes, metallic overlays or split fountain rainbows, building colour fields that can exceed twenty layers without muddying. Paper stocks range from Somerset velvet to recycled kraft, each chosen to complement the image surface and the artist’s intent.

Beyond edition work, Serio Press runs community workshops, teaching local high school students how to burn screens, mix pigments and edition their own posters. Recent projects include a 5,000 run voter registration broadside for Rock the Vote, a suite of ocean coloured prints with painter Hayley Barker and a monumental twelve color portrait of labor leader Dolores Huerta for the Smithsonian.

Every print leaves the shop stamped with the Serio chop two coyotes circling a saguaro symbolising collaboration, resilience and the belief that art, like ink, should travel far beyond the studio wall.

Eelus is the professional alias of Lee Pennington, a self taught British artist born in Wigan in 1979 who helped shape the early UK street art scene. He began selling hand drawn Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles posters to classmates at age nine, an enterprise that funded extra chocolate bars and foreshadowed a lifelong obsession with accessible art. After moving to London in the early 2000s he adopted the moniker Eelus, a shortening of “Eel Boy,” a nickname given by an ex girlfriend who thought his tall, goth like silhouette resembled the slippery creature.

Working exclusively with hand cut stencils and aerosol, he creates high impact images that merge stark monochrome figures with sudden eruptions of candy colour, suggesting the perpetual tension between light and dark while celebrating the resilience of the human spirit. His breakthrough piece, a young girl walking a Star Wars AT-AT on a leash, appeared on East End walls and sold out as a limited print through Banksy’s Pictures on Walls label, catapulting Eelus into the international spotlight and becoming an icon of the burgeoning movement.

Invitations followed to paint at Banksy’s Cans Festival and to exhibit alongside Shepard Fairey and D*Face, yet Pennington has remained grounded, relocating to Brighton where the sea breeze informs quieter, more introspective works. Recent murals feature spectral silhouettes dissolving into prismatic rainbows, and gallery canvases layer gold leaf over pitch black forms, proving that even after two decades his visual language continues to evolve while retaining its signature optimism. Whether printing on paper, painting on brick or installing translucent sculptures in abandoned chapels, Eelus offers the same promise: beauty can bloom anywhere darkness tries to take root.

Over the years he has exhibited in group and solo shows throughout Europe and the United States building a loyal following drawn to his energetic palette and accessible but thought provoking themes. Pennington continues to live and work in Brighton where he develops new bodies of work that push stencil technique toward painterly abstraction while remaining rooted in the street aesthetic that launched his career.
