Adrian Landon Brooks is an American artist born in Houston Texas in 1983 who now lives and works in the woods outside Austin. He studied painting at the San Francisco Art Institute and has developed a distinctive desert folk aesthetic that merges spiritual symbolism with roughhewn materials. Brooks combs burn piles at sawmills junk shops and antique stores searching for weathered wood corroded metal and faded photographs whose patina he refuses to strip. Once an object speaks to him he answers with acrylic ink pastel and pencil applying serene faces celestial bodies blooming flowers and geometric altars that hover between ancient icon and contemporary dream.

A consistent pastel palette of peach mint and lilac softens the melancholy themes of love loss and redemption that run through his work creating a gentle dissonance that soothes while it unsettles. The artist credits his early days writing graffiti with teaching him color composition and urgency lessons that still guide his bold concise imagery. Recent murals include commissions for the San Antonio Spurs and large scale walls across Texas while gallery exhibitions like Siren Song reveal a more deliberate dialogue with Egyptian and pan Mediterranean forms.  Shay Culligan is an outspoken Irish born, Boston based visual artist who works across oil, acrylic, photography, sculpture and, most distinctively, handpulled serigraphy. Raised in Navan, he credits the rolling fields and stone ruins of County Meath with instilling a sense of history that now surfaces in layered urban imagery. After relocating to Massachusetts he studied at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, where a foundation in observational drawing merged with a fascination for printmaking’s mechanical rhythm.

Culligan’s silk-screen editions begin as his own photographs often cracked pavement, weathered billboards or museum statuary which he translates into high contrast stencils, then rebuilds with translucent colour passes until the paper seems to glow. Recent series reference classical icons such as the Winged Victory of Samothrace, yet ghost-like drips and off-register overlays inject street urgency into the antique forms. The result is work that feels simultaneously reverent and rebellious, an approach he sums up as “respectful vandalism”.

Although he jokes about refusing to court the official art world, Culligan maintains an active exhibition schedule. A 2022 solo show at Savin Gallery marked his first in eight years, while 2024 appearances at Washington Street Gallery continue to introduce his hybrid practice to new audiences. Whether printing limited editions in his Boston studio or painting large outdoor panels, he remains committed to craft, narrative and the belief that every layer ink, memory or myth deserves space to breathe.
