Josh Criswell 'Tough Guy' Print Available

Artist: Josh Criswell/Crozz Draws
Title: Tough Guy
Medium: 2 Color Linocut Print
Size: 8 x 10 Inches
Edition: UNSURE
Prices: $30

Josh Criswell, who publishes under the studio name Crozz Draws, is an American painter, printmaker and art educator born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Working from a modest studio filled with hip-hop, hardcore and punk-rock playlists, he hand-carves linoleum blocks that explore the paradoxes of life: danger beside growth, violence beside pleasure, mortality beside vibrant colour. Skulls, tigers and anonymous figures recur in his prints, each rendered with obsessive symmetry and a crisp, high-contrast palette that echoes the urgency of gig posters and protest flyers.
His process begins with meticulous sketches that map every contour, ensuring that each knife-cut line will lock into a perfect mirrored balance. Ink is then rolled onto the block and pressed onto delicate 80 gsm paper, producing small editions where subtle variations in pressure become part of the final rhythm. Recent pieces such as Tiger Style and Woman on Phone layer hand-painted gold leaf or neon washes over the initial black pull, adding contemporary shimmer to the raw relief surface.
Criswell has exhibited at Point Five Gallery, Vestige Concept Gallery and Nevin Kelly Gallery in Washington D.C., while online drops through Crozz Draws sell out within minutes. When he is not carving, he teaches printmaking to high-school students, encouraging them to treat the block as a stage where personal fears and communal hopes can perform together. Through every symmetrical skull and blooming rose, he offers a simple reminder: imperfection is part of the dance, and beauty often begins where the blade slips.

Tuyo is the creative alias of David Schmitt, a self-taught German printmaker and painter born in the early 1990s and now based between southern Germany and Barcelona. Working without formal art-school training, he has built an international following of more than 63,000 Instagram followers who are drawn to his instantly recognisable “primitivist” aesthetic: bold, flat colour fields, thick black outlines and densely packed patterns that feel simultaneously childlike and ancient
.
Schmitt begins each piece with hand-drawn sketches, then layers acrylic, ink and digital touches to create surreal vignettes where sacred and secular symbols collide angels float beside cassette tapes, tigers guard steaming coffee cups, and jazz musicians wear halos of stars and flowers. The compositions echo medieval illuminated manuscripts, Mexican folk retablos and 1980s skateboard graphics, yet the palette is unmistakably contemporary: candy pinks, toxic greens and metallic golds that pop off the page or wall.
Limited-edition screen prints are produced in small runs on heavyweight cotton paper, often finished with spot varnishes or gold leaf so the surface catches light like a low-relief icon. Original paintings on reclaimed wood panels carry the same reverence for texture, letting rough grain peek through saturated hues, a reminder of the handmade in an increasingly digital world.
Recent collaborations include a capsule collection with apparel label Far A Field, where jazz motifs were translated into embroidered shirts, and a sold-out print release via Drool Art that featured a serene figure whispering “It’s Okay,” a mantra that captures the gentle optimism running through Schmitt’s work. Whether pasted as a wheat-paste alleyway piece or exhibited in Barcelona’s Miscelanea gallery, Tuyo’s art invites viewers to pause, smile and find solace in the playful collision of past and present.

Ewa Medrek 'Downpour' Print Available

Artist: Ewa Medrek
Title: Downpour
Medium: 1 Color Linocut Print
Size: 38 x 27 cm
Edition: UNSURE
Price: $80

Ewa Medrek is a Polish Canadian artist who invites viewers into a dreamscape where botanical elegance meets modern digital craft. Born in Kraków, she studied graphic arts at the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts, absorbing centuries of European printmaking tradition before relocating across the Atlantic. Her Etsy storefront, EwaMedrekGraphiques, serves as both gallery and laboratory, offering archival giclée prints, hand finished canvases and downloadable wall art that carry her distinctive vision into homes around the world.
Medrek’s imagery flourishes in muted jewel tones and soft gradients, depicting stylized flowers, birds and female silhouettes that float in undefined space. She begins each piece with loose graphite sketches, then layers watercolor washes, digital painting and subtle gold foil accents, building depth that feels simultaneously vintage and contemporary. The absence of hard edges allows petals and feathers to melt into one another, suggesting movement caught between breaths.
Influenced by Art Nouveau posters, pre war botanical illustrations and the quiet melancholy of Eastern European folklore, she seeks to create beauty that functions as emotional sanctuary. Her limited edition prints often sell out within hours, yet she keeps prices accessible, believing original art should belong to more than galleries and museums. Commissions have included album covers for indie folk bands, wine label series for Niagara vineyards and large scale murals inside wellness spas, each project expanding her vocabulary of organic forms.
When not drawing, Medrek explores Montréal greenhouses with sketchbook in hand, collecting reference material and teaching workshops on digital illustration techniques. Through every piece she offers a gentle reminder that grace still exists, waiting to be noticed in the curve of a stem or the hush of a moonlit garden.

Barbara Kuebel 'Water Is My Life!' Print Available

Artist: Barbara Kuebel
Title: Water Is My Life!
Medium: Woodcut Print
Size: 24 x 33.9 Inches
Edition: 10
Price: $650

Barbara Kuebel was born in 1969 in Linz, Austria, and today lives and works in Daphne, Alabama. After earning two degrees from the Academy of Fine Art Vienna she moved from painting into large scale woodcut printing, an approach that allows her to carve life sized figures directly into raw timber without costly chemicals or elaborate tools . Her creative process is guided by a studio mantra of “no fun, no art,” a principle that keeps the work spontaneous and physically engaging.
Kuebel’s images spring from awkward social moments and the never ending search for being. She begins with swift charcoal sketches of bodies in motion, then translates those fluid lines into hefty woodblocks. Using only hand gouges and basic rollers, she cuts away negative space for about a week, prints the block in three concentrated hours, and allows the sheet to dry for two weeks, producing editions of five that bear rough hewn edges and velvety monochrome ink.
The finished portraits feel simultaneously abstract and figurative: limbs stretch and overlap, expressions remain unfinished, and the grain of the wood becomes a living element within the picture plane.
Exhibitions in Europe and the United States have presented these prints alongside painted variations that echo the same emotive energy in oil and pencil . Whether showing a single towering figure or a dense swarm of characters, Kuebel invites viewers to confront the uneasy beauty of human connection and the raw physicality of mark making itself.
