______________

Roamcouch is the pseudonym for Japanese stencil artist Ryosuke Yasumoto. Hailing from Gifu, Japan, Yasumoto began his artistic journey in the 1990s, initially working as a designer. He transitioned to street art and the name Roamcouch around 2004, embracing stencils as his primary medium. His work is instantly recognizable for its intricate, layered stencils that create vibrant, highly detailed, and often nostalgic imagery reminiscent of pop art and ukiyo-e woodblock prints.
He is particularly known for his "When You Wish Upon a Star" series, which often depicts a small child observing a large, colorful, and often celestial or fantastical scene. These pieces explore themes of hope, childhood dreams, and the quiet beauty of everyday life, often featuring motifs like stars, birds, and flowers set against muted urban backdrops. His technique is meticulous, sometimes involving dozens of hand-cut layers to achieve the depth and subtle color gradients that define his style.
Roamcouch has exhibited his work globally, participating in shows and festivals across Asia, Europe, and the United States. His art frequently appears on street walls and in high-end galleries, blurring the lines between graffiti and fine art. He has also collaborated with various brands and organizations, further cementing his place in the contemporary art scene. His unique blend of Japanese sensibilities and Western street art techniques has garnered him international acclaim and a dedicated following among art collectors and enthusiasts.

Shang Chengxiang is a contemporary Chinese artist celebrated for his evocative and technically refined oil paintings. Born in 1962 in Qingdao, Shandong province, he grew up during a period of significant cultural and social change in China. These formative experiences deeply influenced his artistic perspective, driving him to explore the intersection of traditional Chinese sensibilities with modern artistic expression. He graduated from the Printmaking Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing in 1988, a solid academic foundation that provided the discipline and technical skill evident in his later work.
Chengxiang’s style is distinctly narrative and often characterized by a rich, subtle color palette. He is particularly renowned for his ability to capture moments of quiet contemplation and introspection. His subjects frequently feature ordinary people, often in serene, somewhat ambiguous settings, allowing the viewer to project their own understanding onto the scene. His masterful use of light and shadow creates a profound sense of depth and atmosphere, drawing parallels to classical European painters while maintaining a uniquely Eastern lyrical quality.
His art often delves into themes of memory, the passage of time, and the human condition. While his early works leaned towards printmaking, he transitioned primarily to oil painting, finding the medium more suitable for the nuanced textures and emotional depth he wished to convey. Shang Chengxiang has achieved significant acclaim both within China and internationally. His paintings are highly sought after by collectors and have been featured in numerous exhibitions at major galleries and art fairs across Asia, Europe, and the United States, cementing his reputation as a significant voice in contemporary Chinese art.
