Nicole Evans is a contemporary Australian artist, illustrator, and muralist renowned for her hyperrealistic yet surreal oil paintings that explore environmental themes. Originally from Tasmania, where a childhood love for nature and animals was fostered, she is now based in Melbourne.
Evans's work is characterized by a meticulous, multi-layered use of oil paint to create incredibly detailed depictions of wildlife. Her art often features animals in unusual or unexpected environments, a deliberate choice to allude to climate change, habitat loss, and forced displacement. The animals are frequently anthropomorphic, acting as symbols for her own emotions or personal life struggles. Her series Smoke Signals, for example, features oversized, prehistoric-looking animals inspired by phrases like "canary in the coal mine," positioning the creatures as harbingers of environmental danger.
A graduate of RMIT University with a Master of Fine Art, Evans has exhibited her work nationally and internationally, with pieces held in private collections worldwide. She has been featured in publications such as Beautiful Bizarre Magazine and The LA Times and actively accepts both public and private commissions.
