Paul Kneen is a British artist originally from the United Kingdom, specifically born in Nottinghamshire and raised near the Lake District in Ulverston, Cumbria. Based in Stamford as of 2026, he has established a distinct creative voice through a style that merges street art influences with fine art techniques. His work often explores the complexities of the human condition, focusing on themes of mental health, resilience, and the internal struggles faced in the modern world. He predominantly utilizes paint on a variety of surfaces beyond traditional canvas, including recycled cardboard, wooden boards, and skateboards, often incorporating spray paint, stencils, and vibrant hues to create depth and narrative.
His artistic journey was significantly influenced by the street art movement he observed while living in London during the mid-2000s, which inspired him to use art as a vehicle for social commentary and debate. This shift led to the development of his expressive portraits, such as those featured in his major solo exhibition titled PAINtings, which was hosted at the Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery. These works are characterized by their ability to capture raw emotions like frustration and despair while simultaneously offering a glimmer of hope through their vitality. Beyond his personal practice, Kneen has contributed to the broader creative community by founding platforms to support emerging artists and has exhibited his work internationally, including in South Africa.
