Dan Grzeca is a Chicago-based artist, illustrator, and master printmaker widely recognized for his distinctive, hand-silkscreened prints and posters. A graduate of Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in drawing in 1990, Grzeca has been a prominent figure in the Chicago art and music communities since the 1990s, when he began his career by contributing short comic stories to inserts in punk and noise rock record releases for the local SKiN GRAFT Records label. He established his own studio and shop, Ground Up Press, in Chicago's Lincoln Square district, through which he has produced thousands of illustrations and prints since 1996.
Grzeca's artistic style is instantly recognizable, often employing a unique technique of scratchboard and pencil drawings transferred to screens for printing. This method produces a raw, intricate, and expressive visual aesthetic, frequently drawing inspiration from painters like Philip Guston and Max Beckmann, as well as from contemporary events and human history. His work is deeply rooted in the local Chicago scene, with many recognizing his art from various events at venues like the Empty Bottle and The Hideout, though he has also exhibited his work in galleries nationally and internationally.
Over his decades long career, Grzeca has built an extensive list of clients, creating concert posters and album art for internationally renowned musicians and bands, including The Black Keys, U2, Phish, Alabama Shakes, Iron and Wine, and the Smashing Pumpkins. He is particularly known for his long standing relationship with The Black Keys, for whom he has designed numerous show posters. Grzeca’s use of screen printing makes his art accessible to a wider audience at lower price points, a stance that is much admired in the art collecting community. He remains a vital part of the independent poster art world, participating annually in the SXSW Flatstock exhibition in Austin, Texas.

_____________

Ricardo Romero (b. 1981, Évora, Portugal) is a self taught multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Leiria, Portugal. Since the mid 1990s, working under the pseudonym "Ship," he began his artistic journey with a focus on graffiti and mural painting, utilizing urban art as a powerful vehicle for communication and social engagement, particularly in workshops and short courses for young people. His diverse practice has since expanded to encompass painting, sculpture, photography, video, and installations, reflecting a constant dialogue between poetic expression and architectural space. Romero's style, heavily influenced by urban art languages, has evolved into a contemplative visual language he calls "Romerography," a technique involving deliberate layering, interruption, and the inclusion of absence to evoke themes of memory, silence, and perception.
His work often explores the ephemeral nature of life and the interplay of time and space, transforming public spaces into meditations on human existence and cultural identity. For instance, his sculpture "Vamos?!" in Setúbal uses a child playing with a toy train to symbolize the infinite possibilities of life and the impact of time, while another work, "Zebro," reflects on the impermanence of existence through the image of an extinct horse. Beyond his personal artistic production, which has been exhibited internationally across Europe, Africa, and South America, Romero is a notable curator and producer of various public art projects and street art festivals in Portugal, including "Projeto Matilha" and "Paredes com História". Through these initiatives and his own art, he consistently gives a voice to social causes, animals, and people who might otherwise go unheard, bridging the gap between street culture and fine art. His recent sculptures, such as the "CAT #000" series, have further solidified his position as one of Portugal's exciting sculptural voices, shaping urban landscapes with his unique vision.

Mohammed Sami 'On Air' Print Available

Artist: Mohammed Sami
Title: On Air
Medium: Hand Embellished Giclee Print
Size: 50 x 61 cm
Edition: 31
Price: £1,650

Mohammed Sami, born in Baghdad in 1984, is a highly regarded contemporary painter known for his evocative, large-scale works that explore memory and the lasting impact of war and displacement. His artistic journey began with intensive classical training at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad, a period that included painting propaganda murals for Saddam Hussein's regime. Following the Iraq War, he worked briefly for the Iraqi Ministry of Culture before seeking asylum in Sweden in 2007 and eventually settling in London, where he earned an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London, in 2018.
Sami's distinctive style is characterized by the absence of human figures, instead using everyday objects, domestic interiors, and landscapes to allude to human presence and unsettling narratives. He describes his process as a "belated response to memory," employing metaphor and ambiguity, often drawing inspiration from Arabic literary devices like taoria (puns or double meanings) to free his work from a one-way, didactic narrative. In his paintings, a rolled-up carpet might resemble a shrouded body, or the shadow of a houseplant might take on a menacing, spidery form, infusing ordinary scenes with an uncanny strangeness and a sense of latent violence.
Rather than directly depicting graphic conflict, Sami's semi-abstract compositions force viewers to confront the "ghosts of the past" through suggestion and atmosphere. His work has been featured in major exhibitions at institutions such as the Hayward Gallery in London, the Carnegie International in Pittsburgh, and the Camden Art Centre. He was nominated for the prestigious 2025 Turner Prize for his solo exhibition After the Storm at Blenheim Palace, which challenged traditional narratives of military glory through his quietly haunting artistic vision. His paintings are held in the permanent collections of major museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Tate in London.
