Felix Holst is a British artist and designer who has made a significant mark on automotive culture through both industrial design and fine art. Originally from Newcastle upon Tyne in the United Kingdom, Holst developed a passion for car culture and motorsports during his youth, which eventually led him to pursue a formal education in Design for Industry at Northumbria University. His professional journey is perhaps best defined by his extensive tenure at Mattel, where he served as the Vice President of Design for iconic brands like Hot Wheels and Matchbox. During this period, he was instrumental in revitalizing these brands, blending his deep knowledge of vehicle aesthetics with a sharp commercial sensibility to reach a global audience.
After departing from the toy industry in 2015, Holst shifted his focus toward entrepreneurial ventures and expressive painting. He co-founded Hackrod, a company that utilized advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and 3D printing to democratize vehicle design. As a painter, his work is characterized by a vibrant fusion of pop art and street art influences, often featuring classic automotive subjects. He employs a unique technique that incorporates thick, layered acrylics and a graffiti-inspired style to create pieces that convey speed and motion. Now based in Los Angeles, Holst remains a prominent figure in the California car scene, frequently collaborating with other cultural icons to produce limited edition prints and original works that celebrate the intersection of art and machines.
