Charles Monroe Schulz (1922–2000) was one of the most influential cartoonists of the 20th century, the creative genius behind the beloved and enduring comic strip Peanuts. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Schulz served in the U.S. Army during World War II before beginning his professional cartooning career. His early work included illustrations for the Saturday Evening Post and the single-panel comic Li'l Folks, which featured characters recognizable as early prototypes for the Peanuts gang.

The first Peanuts strip debuted in just seven newspapers on October 2nd, 1950. It introduced the world to the melancholic but determined Charlie Brown and his remarkably imaginative beagle, Snoopy.
