Angela Fang Zirbes, born in Iowa in 2000, is a contemporary painter whose work powerfully explores themes of identity, isolation, and memory through a haunting, monochromatic lens. Based in both New York and her home state of Iowa, her art is a deeply personal reflection of her experiences growing up as a biracial woman in the American Midwest, navigating a sense of liminality and an in between state of belonging and estrangement. Zirbes received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design in 2023 and has quickly gained recognition in the art world.

Her distinctive style involves applying airbrushed acrylic and graphite on raw canvas, a technique that creates a soft, velvety texture and allows for dramatic contrasts of light and shadow, reminiscent of aged black and white photographs. This aesthetic enhances the eerie, dreamlike quality of her pieces, which are often set in old rural houses similar to those from her childhood and populated with recurring motifs like rabbits, ornate jars, and familiar furniture.
