Raymond Biesinger is a Montréal-based illustrator, artist, and author known for a prolific body of work that blends minimalism, complex geometry, and hand-rendered textures in a unique digital collage style. He has completed over 1,000 projects since 2002 for an impressive range of international clients, including The New YorkerTimeThe Guardian, and Wired. Biesinger's work is heavily influenced by his diverse interests, including a BA in European and North American political history, 19th-century panoramic maps, economics, music, and local history. He transforms complex ideas and systems into clean, crisp, and communicative images that often have a vintage or mid-century aesthetic.
Beyond commercial illustration, Biesinger is also a successful author and a vocal advocate for artists' rights in the age of AI. His notable personal works include 305 Lost Buildings of Canada (2022), a national non-fiction bestseller co-authored with The Globe and Mail's architecture critic Alex Bozikovic. His most recent book is 9 Times My Work Has Been Ripped Off: An Informal Self-Defence Guide for Independent Creatives (2025), which offers practical advice and candid anecdotes about copyright infringement. He also created the "Paper Cities" series, a collection of art prints featuring illustrated maps and depictions of various Canadian cities and landmarks. A self-taught illustrator, Biesinger is an active member of the creative community and a proud member of Illustration Québec. He also plays guitar and sings in the noise garage art duo the Famines.
