_____________

Charles Vess is an American fantasy illustrator and comic book artist born on June 10, 1951, in Lynchburg, Virginia. Growing up with a deep fascination for folklore and traditional fairy tales, he began focusing seriously on art during his youth before pursuing a formal education at Virginia Commonwealth University. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1974, he transitioned into the professional world of commercial illustration and comics, eventually becoming a staple in the limited edition art print and poster collector community. His intricate linework and ethereal aesthetics draw heavy inspiration from the Golden Age of Illustration, positioning him as a master of modern fantasy rather than a purely contemporary stylist.
Throughout his prolific career, Charles Vess has achieved numerous significant accomplishments that solidified his status as a premiere illustrator. One of his most celebrated milestones is winning the World Fantasy Award for Best Short Story in 1991 for his collaboration with Neil Gaiman on Sandman issue nineteen, which remains the only comic book to ever receive the prestigious literary honor. Collectors often seek out his iconic work on the illustrated novel Stardust and his expansive contributions to the Earthsea series by Ursula K. Le Guin. His ability to blend narrative depth with fine art precision has made his limited edition prints highly coveted by those who value high quality fantasy lithographs and mythic imagery.
In addition to his literary contributions, Charles Vess has participated in several high profile art shows and gallery exhibitions that showcase his technical prowess. His work was featured in the mythic themed exhibition at the Reading Public Museum titled Enchantment, which explored the intersection of folklore and visual storytelling. Furthermore, his intricate paintings have been displayed at the Society of Illustrators in New York, an institution dedicated to honoring the most influential creators in the field. These exhibitions provide concrete proof of his impact on the art world and offer collectors a glimpse into the physical scale and detail of his original masterpieces.
Collectors of limited edition posters and rare fantasy prints frequently recognize his most famous pieces of art such as The Books of Magic, Spirit of the Forest, and his elaborate covers for Swamp Thing. His dedication to the craft of traditional ink and watercolor illustration ensures that each piece retains a timeless quality that resonates with enthusiasts of fine art prints. By maintaining a focus on narrative folklore and detailed landscapes, he has carved out a unique niche that transcends standard comic book art. Whether through his self published Green Man Press or high end gallery features, his legacy continues to grow within the collector community as a definitive voice in fantasy illustration.

______________

Born in 1981 in the United States, Tavar Zawacki is an American abstract artist who initially gained international recognition under the street art pseudonym ABOVE. For twenty years, Zawacki maintained a strictly anonymous profile while proliferating his signature arrow iconography across the globe. He began focusing on art as a teenager, specifically in 1996 when he started tagging freight trains in California. This early immersion in the graffiti subculture served as his primary education, as he chose to bypass traditional fine art institutions in favour of self directed study on the streets. His transition from an anonymous street performer to a celebrated studio artist is a testament to his evolution in geometric abstraction and hard edge painting.
One of his most significant accomplishments occurred in 2001 when he moved to Paris and began his transition from traditional lettering to his iconic arrow symbol. This shift allowed him to communicate across language barriers, eventually leading to large scale murals in over sixty countries. In 2017, Tavar Zawacki decided to step away from his alias to embrace his birth name, a pivotal moment that was marked by his first solo exhibition under his true identity. This transition was documented and celebrated by major institutions, reinforcing his position within the formal art world while retaining his street level credibility.
Zawacki has participated in numerous prestigious exhibitions that have solidified his standing among collectors of limited edition art prints and geometric compositions. In 2017, he presented a groundbreaking solo exhibition titled Metamorphosis at the Urban Spree Gallery in Berlin. This show was instrumental in debuting his shift toward Op Art influences and complex spatial arrangements. He also took part in the high profile group exhibition titled Beyond the Streets, curated by Roger Gastman, which showcased at the Werkschau in Los Angeles. These appearances have made his physical works and limited print releases highly sought after by enthusiasts of bold graphic aesthetics.
