"I drew some daggers to make a pattern. I live next door to a military memorabilia store and every day the guy puts all these daggers and swords in the window for display. Today i went in and took some photos. It’s the kind of shop that looks like it grew there on the street. It has so much stuff in it it’s amazing. If you live in Bristol it’s the one on lower Park Row. There are two but the other one sells antiques mainly. If you count old ashtrays as antiques."

Greg Simkins 'Inside The Outside' Art Show Details

We are pleased to present Inside the Outside, an exhibition of new paintings and works on paper by Greg 'Craola' Simkins. This is Simkins' second solo show with Joshua Liner Gallery.

A fantasist at heart, Simkins alternates between the unsettling and the sentimental-in his finely rendered work, the grotesque can turn sweet and vice-versa. Fanged caterpillars become sad-eyed clowns, grow machine parts, or inflate into bulbous balloons that sprout other bizarre creatures and beings. Simkins' vision weaves together influences as diverse as contemporary pop culture, twentieth-century fantasy novels, old master paintings, carnival kitsch, and cyborgian amalgams of technology and nature.
